The Hebi Hei Ti is a Manchu variable font family designed to complement Source Han Sans, meeting the typesetting requirements for horizontal and vertical layouts in Chinese-dominant texts. This design addresses three key issues in existing Manchu fonts: shaping errors in Manchu, incomplete character display, and visual disharmony when typeset alongside Chinese characters. The design process focused on the Manchu section of "The Analects" from the 1755 Wuying Palace edition of "Imperial Commissioned Bilingual Edition of the Four Books" (Qianlong 20th year), a representative Manchu-Chinese bilingual engraved edition, and integrating the geometric characteristics of Source Han Sans, the font achieves unified proportions, visual balance with Chinese characters. It supports the digitization of Manchu archives, enables seamless cross-language and cross-platform text conversion/processing, and fulfills academic typographic requirements. The core philosophy of this font family lies in manifesting the historical depth of cultural integration through typographic design, interpreting the contemporary ethos of multicultural symbiosis and shared prosperity through modern design language.
