Integrate into the earth, Blend into nature-- Design of village study and education base

This design, themed “Integrate into the earth, Blend into nature,” focuses on the renovation of the entrance watchtower and surrounding farmland in Caobian Village, Nan District, Zhongshan. Using an earth-covered “small hill” form, the architecture integrates seamlessly with the natural terrain. The rooftop serves as an open platform offering layered viewing experiences, while the underground space houses multifunctional areas for educational programs, community activities, exhibitions, and cultural creativity. Organized with a flexible 10x10m structural grid, the interior includes reading zones, sharing spaces, classrooms, a café, and gallery. As the design centerpiece, the renovated watchtower becomes a local landmark—revitalizing historical memory while injecting new life—creating a shared space that serves both community and educational needs.
