“East or west, Guilin scenery is best” (Wang Zhenggong · Song Dynasty). The natural landscape of Guilin in Guangxi province can definitely be described as “fairyland on earth”. Mr. Huang Binhong believes that there are four processes in landscape painting all painters must go through. First, “climbing the mountain and facing the water”; second, “observing and studying them in depth”; third, “having the mountains and rivers in mind”; fourth, “thinking twice before painting”. In the past ten years, I have been to Guilin many times for landscape painting, thinking and dreaming about it day and night. Guilin landscape has become a knot in my heart. Therefore, my works adopt the traditional Chinese freehand brushwork technique to fully let out my emotions. Strictly speaking, freehand brushwork is not a technique, but a spirit and realm of Chinese painting. I want to rearrange and cut the natural and cultural landscapes of Guilin, and convert them into some “significant form”.
